Goatrek was created to be a space for our trekkers to thrive in, and with our focus on user-generated content, we provide the most authentic and innovative experience available on the market. We use adventure as the medium to connect like-minded individuals by combining outdoor adventuring with social media, and providing users a place to leave their footprints for others to walk on through the mobile application. This app allows users to curate, create & access treks and associated content (including important trek information) globally, and facilitates valuable exchanges between our community of trekkers. By connecting the tangible (nature) with the digital (user app), Goatrek streamlines all things adventure — from discovering and planning your treks, to executing them and connecting with others along the way.
Goatrek is different in that way that it combines outdoor adventuring with social media. The app provides a central place for users to share their experiences with other trekkers all over the world—trekkers post their authentic experiences to the app’s feed, effectively connecting them with others in our community & providing an experience which others can recreate for themselves.
With this increased access to exploration, what we’ve found to be at stake the most is the well-being of our world. We believe that if we don’t collectively wake up to our shared fragility and fate, and change our ways, none of our maps will matter. We encourage everyone to fall in love with the planet & the outdoors, and with that love we also encourage respect for it (there’s evidence to support that the more we engage with nature the more connected we feel to the planet, to climate change, and the more we want to do our part to protect it). We are of course aware of the impact that geotagging can have on the areas we feature and that’s why we are committed to returning a portion of our proceeds back into the trails our users discover to preserve, protect & cherish them. To further encourage respect for the planet, we heavily promote Leave No Traces’ Seven Principles, encourage the “slow travel” mindset (a mindset that rejects the traditional ideas of tourism, encourages people to soak in their environments and keep themselves open to new/local experiences) and also have plans to introduce a carbon offset campaign.
The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics provides proven, research-based solutions for the protection of the natural world. The organization accomplishes its mission by working with the public & those managing public lands and by providing innovative education, skills and research to help people care for the outdoors.
The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace provide an easily understood framework of minimum impact practices for anyone visiting the outdoors. Although Leave No Trace has its roots in backcountry settings, the Principles have been adapted so that they can be applied anywhere — from remote wilderness areas, to local parks and even in your own backyard. They also apply to almost every recreational activity. Each Principle covers a specific topic and provides detailed information for minimizing impacts.
Individuals and/or groups who find value in experience, seek adventure through travel, or have the desire to partake in outdoor exploration on a more local level. Users of the app enjoy sharing their experiences and see the benefit in time spent outdoors (solo or with other trekkers) and the importance of conserving it.
www.goatrek.com is a web resource that mirrors the activity within the app, including the main world-map interface. The Goatrek website allows you to view posted treks, view trekker’s content and create your own digital content to compliment your activity on the app. It’s also through the website where you can create & post blogs (or what we like to call your travel journal!).
user-app.goatrek.com is a landing page where you can find more specific information about the app itself.
Being a part of the Goatrek community means being a part of global community of adventure seekers looking to connect, engage & experience the natural world. Being a part of our community means you get access to treks, some of which are unknown to the public outside of Goatrek, as well as original/applicable content only available to our trekkers. Real people sharing real adventures in real time – that’s what the Goatrek community is all about!
Goatrek facilitates valuable exchanges between trekkers across the world through its internal messaging function, which gives users the power to discover local trekkers in the area & invite them along.
Other than the obvious reasons such as encouraging time outdoors & encouraging physical activity, there are also some less apparent benefits for your mental health as well. Research shows that the physical effects of green exposure on the brain are positive, with experts encouraging people to make increasing their time in nature a priority. The social component of Goatrek (i.e. the connectivity between like-minded individuals seeking outdoor adventures) facilitates a feeling of community, with the app & website being a safe place for people to share, connect and engage with one another.
Goatrek is continuously working towards forging strategic agreements with other organizations to help reach new users worldwide. We do this through a number of tactics: one being a cross-promotion with applicable brands or products/services. Goatrek is always looking for new philanthropy opportunities related to the preservation of our environment & encouragement of its importance.
